For those who missed it — and those who don’t yet know they will — Transmalhar returns to continue building literacy about the territory through artistic exercises. São Miguel becomes a laboratory, and our bodies the magnifying glass through which we attentively sense space – walking, wandering, and reclaiming art as a civic act.

An investigation where participants (re)encounter and (re)recognise each other, awakening new ways of perceiving and transforming the territory. Open to all ages and abilities.

In this encounter, we will present the participatory publication (Araucária Edições) resulting from the work developed at MELT with the EPROSEC Socio-Cultural Animator class, artists and researchers (Luís Senra; Ana Rita Matias; Sofia Caetano&Elliot Sheedy; Vivian Andrade; Ana Rita Teodoro; Marta Moreira; Coletivo InterStruct; Anita Nemet; Lucas Sangareau) and partner organisations (ACAPO Açores; As Cores dos Açores; Associação de Imigrantes dos Açores; Associação de Surdos da Ilha de São Miguel; Centro de Apoio à Mulher; Novo Dia; UMAR Açores).

Transmalhar is an open methodology developed by Anda&Fala between 2023 and 2024 that promotes transdisciplinary learning about the relationship we establish with the territories we inhabit. Through participatory artistic practices, it explores the triangle of self-body-space and brings together young residents of São Miguel and organisations dedicated to different social causes.

This methodology was first implemented in schools during 2024-25, under the name MELT—Experimental Modules for Transmalhar, a project supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the “la Caixa” Foundation through the PARTIS & Art for Change initiative.
