Based on the eruptive geology of the Azores, Variations on Unquietness listens to the planet as a restless body. The project explores the idea of restlessness at various levels and in various senses, and as a planetary, bodily, and relational condition — vibrational, tectonic, and imaginative.
The ground we walk on is shifting: never before has the force that stifles, silences, and controls been so brutal, massive, and global. Let there be no illusions, however, about the strength of a body-planet (territory-body) that cannot be controlled and which, with all subalternized bodies (body-territory), seems to be heralding the end of the time when ‘body’ and ‘territory’ are encompassed by the word ‘resource’ and when the normalized relationship is one of ‘extraction’.
The work is developed from field recordings, collaborative research, improvisation, and experimentation carried out in residencies in São Miguel (Anda&Fala) and Faial (Avista Vulcão), as well as from the recent traumatic experience of the great fire of 2025, which started in Piódão, passed through her village of Frádigas (Serra da Estrela Natural Park) and, in terms of area burned, became the largest forest fires ever in Portugal.
This performance-installation is the first stage of a larger project which, after the Walk&Talk Biennial, will continue in other residences and venues such as Avista Vulcão (Capelinhos, Faial), Serralves (Porto), Gnration (Braga), and Culturgest (Lisbon).
