Black Smokers was a new creation within The Mountain Body series, Helle Siljeholm’s ongoing art and research project exploring mountains and geological formations as entangled more-than-human bodies across geological time and space. Inspired by volcanic vents unique to the Azores, the work began during the Opening Weekend, with a guided underwater immersion inviting participants to float and explore the sea with small driftwood sculptures gathered from across the archipelago. It was also accessible with a self-guided performance during the whole Biennial, at Centro Cultural da Caloura
