Apolo de Carvalho

Of Cape Verdean origin, with the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator as coordinates, Apolo de Carvalho presents himself as the fruit of the Sahelian biome, a semi-arid but also coastal zone populated by vegetation resistant to wind, salinity, and drought. Defines himself as a student at the great university of the word taught under the shade of baobab trees, “just an African” in the geopolitical context of his time. Lives between places, seeking to re-member the fragmented parts of territories-memories shattered by the brutalism of the nation-state. With a degree in International Relations, is interested in the rhizomatic structures that, since Slavery and Colonization, have been (re)producing violence throughout the Global South. Has found in a poetic-griot methodology one of the many ways of thinking, feeling, and saying, politically, radically, the world.
