Alexa Kumiko Hatanaka
Alexa Hatanaka is a Japanese-Canadian artist who works with historical and handmade paper, combined with printmaking, ink, natural dyeing and sewing. Her adaptations of traditions, in the form of sculpture, installations and wearable sculptures, address contemporary questions of climate change, mental health, and survival. She brings together motifs related to landscape, fish, and bodies of water to speak about personal and collective experiences of struggle, resilience, connection and radical joy.
